When you come home from a Disney trip you have hundreds if not thousand of photos.  These are captured moment and memories that are priceless!

The first time your daughter met her favorite princess… the first time your son conquered Everest…  your husband being ’That Guy” at Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor… that family photo with everyone smiling…

Here are the four most common ways people store and share their photos along with the pros and cons that come along them.   Take a look and see where you fit.  Should you choose another way?

Screenshots of Disney Pictures in iPhotos, Mac, and on a iPhone1 . Do Nothing (Filing Away Photos on Your Camera, SD Card, or Computer)

You may do a little work filing photos away but other than that photos are boxed away with the hopes of doing something more with them.

PROS CONS
You took pictures and captured memories Memories are not being documented and Shared
Photos are at risk to being lost to computer/camera failure
Photos are hard to find on your computer/camera

Screenshots of Disney photos: Facebook, Instagram, Story App by Disney, and Pinterest2. Share Them Online (Facebook. Instagram, Blogging, Apps, etc.)

This is most typical option for sharing photos and memories.   You can share them in real time and friends and family can experience the memories with you. Unfortunately they soon get buried in times lines and news feeds.

PROS CONS
You took pictures and captured memories What you shared is not backed up – they are shared once and forgotten
You are sharing your photos and memories Photos are still at risk to being lost to computer/camera failure
Photos and memories are hard to find on your computer/camera

Traditional Disney Photo and Scrapbook Albums3. Create a Traditional Photo Album or Scrapbook (Print out Photos & Add to an Album)

This is the way most of us grew up with.  Printing your photos at the local drugstore or drive thru photo booth then adding them to albums.   We flip through many of these albums and scrapbooks today.

PROS CONS
You are documenting and sharing your photos & memories You cannot share your albums online
You have preserved your photos in case your computer/camera fails Cost for album supplies
You have included elements to document your story (memorabilia, journaling, dates, names, etc.) Time to organize photos and create album
Albums are not backed up and can be lost (i.e. fire, flood, theft, etc.)

Digital Disney Photo and Scrapbook Albums4. Create a Digital Album or Scrapbook (Using Online Service or Downloaded Software)

This is the next generation of preserving photos and memories.  There are many levels of this option: from quick drag and drop online servies to intricate works of art scrapbooks.   The market is overwhelming so make sure you use an online service or software package that meets your needs.

PROS CONS
You are documenting and sharing your photos & memories Cost for software and album supplies (digital kits)
You have preserved your photos in case your computer/camera fails Learning curve to understand the software
You have included elements to document your story (memorabilia, journaling, dates, names, etc.) Time to organize photos and create album
You can share your album online Cost to print album
You can back up your album and make multiple copies

No matter what method you use do yourself a favor and BACK UP your photos.   This should be on an external drive or even better, an offsite server like Carbonite orBackblaze (not affiliated with either service – but I do use Backblaze).

Having your back up offsite means that in the chance of a worst case scenario of total loss your photos are not lost too. Objects can be replaced – memories cannot.
