5 Reasons Why You Should Go To Star Wars Weekends Even If Your Aren’t Into It
Welcome to the next stop on the Magical Blogorail Red. Today we are tips and information for Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
I have a confession, I married a man who has never seen Star Wars and has absolutely no interest in Star Wars Weekends. (I know, I know. Many people have questioned my judgement over this decision.)
But he is a good husband who does love me so he has agreed to attend (by force at times) Star Wars Weekends with his family of geeks (his words, not mine). Overtime he has conceded and admitted there are a few reasons he does not mind going to Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Here are his top 5 in no particular order:
1. Crowded But Not Crowded
I know this is counter intuitive but if you are going to the parks for the attractions more than the Star Wars festivities the parks are actually quite light despite of the crowds.
The park opens early (8 am rather than 9 am) and while most of the people get in lines for events, event passes or to enter the Star Wars Weekend Store you can easily ride all the headliner attractions.
This phenomena again happens during the Legend of the Force Star Wars parade at 11:30 am.
These technically crowded park days are actually some of the lowest ride wait times of the year. Odd but true.
2. Specialty Treats
You don’t need to stand in too long in line to get some of the best treats and treat containers this side of Endor.
The Star Wars popcorn containers have long been collector favorites. Some of the past favorites are R2-D2 and Darth Vader. This year try eating the famous Disney park popcorn out of Han Solo in carbonite.
Another specialty that comes out only during Star Wars Weekends are the cupcakes. This year you can have the Darth Vader cupcake (chocolate with a peanut butter topping) or the Yoda cupcake (chocolate with hazelnut buttercream frosting and crunchy chocolate-toffee).

3. Real Character Interaction
Even if you don’t know who the characters are you will find roaming the parks very interesting. Throughout the day you will see characters appear and really engage the guests.
How often do you see a Storm Trooper walking the street of New York?
Or have a Gamorrean (pig faced guy as my husband called him) walk up and evaluate your children?
Or loose you hat to a Jawa?
It’s fun watching a squadron of Storm Troopers moving around Pixar Place looking for a rebel spy.
In addition my husband want me to point out that there are quite a few guests that also dress up to attend Star Wars weekends. For non Star Wars fans this is quite entertaining and they tend to mock them (again, that is my husband speaking).
4. Unique Character Meals
Again, this goes with the thought that you don’t have to know who these characters are to enjoy.
The one that is really good for the non-Fans is the Jedi Mickey’s Star Wars Dine at Hollywood and Vine.
Here you will see classic Disney character in Star Wars attire. Possible characters in attendance include Ewoks Chip & Dale, Jedi Mickey, Princess Leia Minnie, Darth Vader Goofy and Stormtrooper Donald.
It’s a great way to get photos with characters in really cool costumes without the lines. (seriously, check out the lines)
The other dining experience is a bit more hard core. If you don’t know who these characters are it may not be as fun. It is the Star Wars Galactic Dine-In breakfast at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater.
Star Wars clips are shown on the big screen and this is a rare opportunity to eat breakfast at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater. Possible character in attendance are Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Jawa, Greedo and Stormtroopers.
5. Park Opening Entertainment
Most of the time as you wait to get through the turnstiles at Disney’s Hollywood Studios you are just standing in the sun. But during Star Wars weekends starting at 7:30 am there is entertainment as you wait.
A couple of Storm Troopers will grace the top of the turnstile and talk to one another about the state of the crowds. They are quite humorous and will tend to make friendly fun at the humans below.
Even if you don’t know who these guys are you will still get the humor and the time will fly.
Each of these reasons that my husband noted are all independent of standing in any Star Wars lines or watching a parade.
Even to those that have no idea what they are seeing.
So don’t fear taking those family members that don’t get it (each family has at least one). They can easily enjoy the day as you can let them wander as you wait in line for your Star Wars Weekend must dos.
So.. may the force be with you!

This is a great post! Because we have Star Wars Fans and those who could care less in our family, it’s good to know that the non-fans would still enjoy the day. 🙂
I’m one of those weirdos who have never seen a Star Wars movie too! Even still Star Wars Weekends at Hollywood Studios look like a blast!
I can confidently say that this is true! I am not really a Star Wars fan but I was both amused and entertained when attending with my BIG Star Wars fan husband.
The lines were so short because everyone was enjoying the Star Wars festivities, so we both got what we were looking for in the day!
These are all great reasons to want to go to Star Wars Weekends! Everyone can still have a great time and not be a hard core Star Wars fan like me 😉
Those are all really great reasons. The characters are a huge draw for us. Hopefully you can force him to watch the movies sometime. Do it for the children Joe!! 🙂
