Day three was the day of the Princess Half-Marathon. Jennifer of Disney Babies Babies Blog was running and tried to talk me into coming to see her run Main Street at 6:00 am but after two early mornings I knew today was going to be a lazy day.
The perk of traveling solo is you can decide ‘to do’ or ‘not to do’ something on a whim and no one complains. So this morning I slept in a bit (I am an early riser anyway) and then headed to Epcot to wander the world and check out the new Test Track sponsored by Chevrolet.
So I got on the bus to Epcot and the driver then told us that because of the Princess Half Marathon we would be heading to the TTC (Ticket and Transportation Center) where we would catch the Monorail to Epcot. Since this was way before opening I was not concerned in the least UNTIL I saw the lines at the TTC. I am not kidding you when I say it was wall to wall people and the lines started outside the big entrance gates right behind the ticket booths.
Good news is the lines were moving so fast I could never get a picture and it took me probably 20-30 minutes to be on my way to Epcot. But I did see many people heading to Epcot to meet their loved ones at the fnish line as part of the chEAR squad. There was no way they were going to be there in time and I felt bad for them.
HINT: If you are chEARing on your loved ones in the Princess Half Marathon get to the finish line early. Whatever time you budgeted to get there – double it!
So I made it to Epcot and headed on over to Test Track. On the way there I saw some really cool characters – Queen of Hearts and White Rabbit!!! I guess they were part of the festivities but were now there for everyone to meet. So I of course I got right in line – I have no issues being a solo adult meeting characters. I love it!
We did have to wait a bit to cross the runners and I have to say Disney and runDisney have made this pretty seamless for the runners. The funny part was I would be standing next to people asking me what is going on and why did we have to wait for the, I guess I am so Disney I would expect everyone else to know their schedule of events.
So onto Test Track. I rode it three times and got some helpful hints for everyone. So here is the skinny. No matter what line you are in you will be given a card to design you car. You can also design you car on your room key, new park tickets, and the My Disney+ wrist bands. Any item with the RFID chip will work.
Standy By Line – Up to 4 People Per Design Station
- The three lines:
- Regular Line – Your party will be split into groups to create your test vehicle in the design room. Then you will head to the vehicle and you will all share that vehicle.
- Fastpass Line – Your party will pass through a room with design stations. You do not have to stop but waiting for a machine could take a while. Once you have completely your car you will be merged into the regular line after their design room. If you get to your vehicle without any design that is ok and it won’t effect your ride experience.
- Stand-By Line – Works much like the FastPass line as you have the option to create a car at a design station. The only difference is you are not merged with the regular line but sent to a separate line that guarantees you will be split from your party. (I actually think this is the fastest option to ride)
But what if you all want to design a car. Here is my recommendation. Work backwards!!!
When you get to Fast Track, grab a Fastpass and head towards the exit. Yes – the exit. Head through the gift store and back into the post show area. Here you will find a lot of things to do.
First off head to a design station (there are a couple in the middle and if you head towards the back there are a lot more) and everyone design their own car. Most tickets and room keys can be used to design your car. If you still need a card there is an attendant towards the gift shop that can get you one.
Now for some family fun – COMPETITION. My favorite is the car race where everyone can race their car against each others for bragging rights. There are also other things to do in their like creating virtual post cards with different scenes. (I loved the Italy back drop) You can spend some time here or head back out into the parks.
Then when your Fastpass time comes up you all can participate with their own car and the ribbing can begin.
So after I conquered Test Track I wandered around the World Showcase ….
