Hi everyone! Sharon here with some tips on using journal cards on your non Project Life style scrap pages.
So…I am sure by now if you are into doing any scrapbooking at all or maybe just resurrecting the hobby after taking a hiatus you would have noticed that most designers are now making journal cards in their kits or available as add-ons to kits.
Of course, these are mainly designed to be used in the tremendously popular Pocket scrapping style or Project Life by Becky Higgins.
You may be asking yourself what is Project Life? Per Becky Higgins…
Project Life provides an ultra-simple solution that helps us get those pictures into albums without draining our time, energy, and wallets. The idea is simple: Photos + memorabilia + journaling together in an album – everything slips into pockets. No requirement to cut or glue or embellish a thing. And yet – the results are stunning. Project Life is back-to-basics scrapbooking at its finest.
Whether you are scrapping traditionally or digitally the cards are available everywhere!
A few weeks ago I snagged this wonderful freebie template by Akizo. It immediately drew my attention because it was perfect to use journal cards with and of course that was her point in designing the template.
At the same time I also got these wonderful Disney journal cards and word strips from Lorie at LJS Digital Designs. They were part of a Mousescrappers challenge so maybe you already have them in your stash.
In addition, I would like to mention that all the rest of the papers (except for the black) & extra journal cards are also by LJS digital designs. Her Everyday Moments basic collection is a fabulous set especially for pocket style scrapping and the bright clear colors & patterns are PERFECT for Disney.

This is a great spot to get away from the crowds and perfect for little children. As you can see in the photos, my children are grown but we love animals and it was nice to take a break from the crowds and lines.
Here is what Disney says about “Affection Section” :
Rafiki’s Planet Watch
Affection Section is located at Rafiki’s Planet Watch, an area devoted to the preservation and conservation of animals.
Additional attractions within Rafiki’s Planet Watch include:
- Conservation Station, an animal care facility featuring hands-on exhibits
- Habitat Habit!, an outdoor discovery trail featuring cotton-top tamarin monkeys
Accessible by the Wildlife Express Train, Rafiki’s Planet Watch features fun educational exhibits and activities to help create awareness of animal issues while offering a behind-the-scenes look into the inner workings of Disney’s Animal Kingdom park.
I particularly loved that the journal cards are Pooh quotes and so I included the Pooh gang sticker towards the bottom of the layout. I think Winnie the Pooh characters look so cute on an Animal Kingdom page.
Take the sticker off and you would hardly know it’s a Disney layout, right? So have fun with your journal cards – they are not just for Project Life. Layer them, dress them up or down, cluster them with some fun buttons and ribbon or use them as quick frames or mats for your photos. The uses are endless!

I absolutely love your layouts. They’re so full and gorgeous.
Animal Kingdom is one of the best parks at WDW for photos and scrapbooking.
I really like the journal cards, they are a lot of fun and look like the would be an easy addition to any scrapbook!
This is such a fun and creative idea, thanks so much for sharing. I would love to create something wonderful like this!
