My husband and I met through Disney, had our first date at Disney, and he even even proposed to me at Disney World. So it was natural for us to think of Walt Disney World when we got married. The price tag was a bit high for a Disney wedding, but a Disney honeymoon was doable. And before we got married we purchased into Disney Vacation Club (DVC). This allowed us to use our points for our accommodations at one of the many DVC properties.
Disney Vero Beach Resort
We did want to have part of our honeymoon at the beach. Luckily, Disney has a resort for that. We began our honeymoon at their Vero Beach resort. This resort is stunning and being Disney just adds to the ambience.
We had an ocean view Inn Room that had a perfect view. We had noted it was our honeymoon on the reservation and that kicked off the Disney magic. Upon check in we were handed our “Just Married’ buttons. Everyone congratulated us and we even found a special note from Goofy in our room.
The high point of the trip was a Wine Tasting seminar we took for cheap wine ($15 a bottle and under). Our Cast Member hostess coined the phrase ‘patio pounders’ for wines that you drink on the deck looking out at the ocean. We also found out my husband was ‘swirl impaired’. He could not get the wine to swirl in a glass no matter what. The Cast Member taught him a trick so he always looked like he knew what he was doing.
After the seminar we were at dinner when the same Cast Member came up to us and presented us a ‘patio pounder’ bottle of wine to enjoy that evening from our porch. She actually came to find us! It was so sweet and made us feel special.
Disney Boardwalk Villas
After a few days we headed to Walt Disney World. Using our DVC points again we stayed at the Boardwalk Villas in a boardwalk view studio. This time we had a card from Cinderella herself welcoming us! I can’t say how much we enjoyed our time at that resort. We loved spending the evenings sitting on our porch watching the boardwalk. It was always so romantic.
Special Attention
There were many special moments during our stay. Cast Members would congratulate us and we would find little treats or surprises on our tables. What was even more fun was meeting other honeymooners and people celebrating their anniversaries. For example, I loved to talk to people celebrating their 30+ year anniversaries in line for rides. We got a lot of good and not so good marriage advice this way.
Spirit of Aloha – First Dance
On one evening of our trip we went to the Spirit of Aloha luau at the Polynesian Resort. At one point of the show they invite all honeymooners and people celebrating their anniversaries to come up for a special dance. We were joined by only one other couple.
On one side we were completely embarrassed by dancing in front of everyone and on the other side we were just enjoying our dance together as Husband and Wife. We had not gotten to dance at our reception so in essence we had our ‘first dance’ at Walt Disney World in front of a couple hundred luau goers.
Character Engagement
But I think my favorite thing was interacting with the Characters. They would always see our pins and then ham it up. They would do things like kiss my hand or cheek, shake Joe’s hand in congratulations, etc. The best was Stitch. In the middle of Tomorrowland he decided to marry us again. It was so much fun! And how many people can say they were married by Stitch?
We loved our honeymoon trip to Walt Disney World so much that we returned for our anniversary. It’s just adding a bit of Disney Magic to an already special occasion.

We also honeymooned at Boardwalk…great memories. We are huge fans of the Vero resort, and every year stay in an ocean view Inn Room. Man, I wish I was there right now…
Sounds like a great experience!! How did you meet thru Disney? Have you already posted about that? I want more 😉

Such a beautiful resort! I have walked through that boardwalk hotel once and thought it was very beautiful.
