Well it’s finally here! Time to get ready to head off to Walt Disney World for the runDisney Princess Half Marathon Weekend. Are You Ready for the 2013 Mickey and Minnie Mouse Royal Family 5K?
My reminder came in the e-mail a couple of weeks ago but I am finally clicking on it and printing off the pre-filled race waiver. It is not necessary to print this off in advance but it really does streamline the packet pickup process.
Also included in the e-mail are pdf instruction for all of the events. I have attached all of the here for you to download:
- Mickey and Minnie Mouse Royal Family 5K and Kids Races Final Instructions
- Princess 1/2 Marathon Final Race Instructions
- chEAR Squad and Race Retreat Final Race Instructions
A couple of hints for first timers:
- Take Disney transportation whenever possible. Trying to drive yourself around to runDisney events can be quite frustrating. It is just easier to let Disney take care of you. They have extra busses in for the weekend so there is always one quickly available.
- Pick up you race Packet in the afternoon. The lines are long when packet pick up opens in the morning. Save your sanity and take a leisurely stroll through the Expo in the afternoon. You can get you packet, see some cool stuff, get some freebies, and maybe even pick up a runDisney item or two.
Now for my packing for race day. Since this is just for the 5K I don’t have to think about anything ‘endurance’ related. But you still need to be prepared.
- Good running/walking shoes that are broken in. No matter what if you have the wrong shoes you are in trouble. I know these shoes and I know they will get me through. Never wear a new pair of shoes in one of these events (or even to Disney at all for that matter).
- Thick socks. I get blisters easily so thick socks that wick moisture away are a must for me.
- Sports Bra and Compression Shorts – Even though I most likely will be walking I still want support. Nothing can be more uncomfortable than wearing the wrong bra.
- Comfortable Shorts – Some people may be confident enough to wear just their athletic wear but I am not one of them. I will be wearing a loose pair of shorts over my compression shorts. (I do have a pair pants just in case it is too cold but most likely I will wear shorts)
- Body Glide Anti-Chaffing Stick. I live by this stuff at Disney as it works miracles. I use it two way: 1. for blisters, I put it on my heels and the sides of my feet and I never get blisters and 2. I have to admit it, I am not thin so I have that unfortunate thigh rubbing thing and this is a life saver!
- My New Magical Blogorail Running shirt. I am so happy about this and excited to wear it for the first time. This is also my first running shirt that is of that cool material that wicks away moisture. I may not be athletic but I will definitely look the part. (also, I designed the front logo – what do you think?)
Depending on the weather I may add a light jacket to my arsenal. So come this Saturday morning I will be hopping on a bus at 5 am and heading to Epcot for my 5K. Will you be joining me? Or will you join me in a future event?
