In 2010 my family ventured to Disney World in December – timing our trip so that we would arrive home on Dec. 22 -plenty of time to be ready for Christmas day at home.
It was our first holiday trip to Disney World and it did not disappoint. The decorations were over-the-top fabulous. Gorgeous decorated trees in every park, resort and retail store. Special merchandise is available in the shops and even the shows & parades were super amped up.
The highlight for me though was Cinderella’s castle, dripping with “ice crystals” and morphing into a purple-y, pink & blue winter delight. I took many photos of the castle on this trip.
This was before I began toting my heavy DSLR into the parks so all l I had was a Canon powershot point & shoot. Unfortunately I had the zoom settings on but was unaware of this until I began comparing my photos with my son’s cell phone shots. No wonder I could not capture the entire castle in my frame – lol! I finally fixed it and now even 3 years later as I edit these photos- I am thinking “hey, not too bad”!
It’s tough to capture Disney at night AND still remain present with family members enjoying the spectacle unfolding as every moment goes by.
I remember the temperatures dropped and we all had fun selecting our new sweatshirts that first evening. Locating the free hot chocolate and cookies and plotting out our spot to watch the parade was more important than the photos that’s for sure. We did manage to get a pro to take our family shot which later became the cover of my album. I now hope to fill it with a lot of pages that I will make for this article series.
This photo is actually 2 photos. The photo on the top is of the castle of course and the one on the bottom is of the reflection of the castle in the moat. I wanted the photo to be totally highlighted on this page and a black background would guarantee that. The black night sky blends in right with the seamless background.
This page will begin my section of the album that will contain my parade photos and night time photos of the Magic Kingdom.
See you next week at the parade! Join me on Thursdays as I continue scrapping a Disney World Christmas!
And remember to check out more of Sharon’s Making of a Disney Christmas Album series

Beautiful!! To say the picture is “not too bad” is an understatement. I really want to see Disney all decorated for Christmas.
Beautiful layout! I love shooting the Magic Kingdom at night. The castle lights are so spectacular!
What a great post! This makes me so excited because our family is heading to Disney for our first Christmas trip in 21 days. We, too, will be arriving home on December 22nd!
Your picture looks great! I have lots of blurry night pictures of Sleeping Beauty’s castle. I need a lot of practice with my DSLR because I just can’t seem to get it right.
beautiful! I love this time of year at WDW. The castle is amazing! I need to return…
Just Beautiful 🙂
