Making Mickey Mummy Cupcakes with a Toddler by SpoonfulIt’s that time of year again …. HALLOWEEN!!  I love this time of year.  I love fall weather (even though Houston is not as fall like as I would like), I love fall colors, and I love preparing for Halloween.

I needed a weekend project for Little Man and I so I headed off to Spoonful.com.   If you have not visited Spoonful.com yet, it is a one-stop shop filled with thousands of inspired ideas that can bring a little magic into everyday family life.

It was very hard for me to decide what to do but Little Man knew it as soon as he saw it.

Right now his favorite color is white (yes, I know the definition of white is void of all color – oh, well) so when he saw the Mickey Mummy Cupcakes there was no longer any reason to continue.

If you are working with a toddler I highly recommend doing the prep work while they are not in sight.  This will allow you some trial and error and assurance someone won’t be eating the parts as you prepare.

And if you don’t have all the ingredients that Spoonful recommends feel free to improvise – we did.

Instead of the chocolate ears, you can use Oreo cookies.  As luck would have it they were double stuff so we threw the double stuff filling into the the icing.

Instead of chocolate covered raisin eyes try tootsie rolls.  They work great and you can actually mold them into any shape your want.  I will be remembering that for many recipes to ome.

A word of warning, it is much harder to flatten a marshmallow then you would think.  They also have a tendency to bounce back so be prepared to put a bit of time and effort in.

Little Man loved it!  First thing is if you are working with a toddler than these cupcakes will not look like the photos.  I was told to step back  – he would handle it.

You really can let them take the lead and just enjoy the moment.  He was so proud of his creations that I came to believe they were beautiful

The last cupcake was my favorite.  Mickey ended up having 6 eyes and 5 ears.  Perfect!
